Gina Carano became the first female competitor to bank six figures on a disclosed U.S. card, according to figures released by the California State Athletic Commission Tuesday.
“The face of women’s MMA” earned $125,000 in her first-round technical knockout loss to Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos last Saturday at Strikeforce in San Jose, Calif. Santos, who was crowned Strikeforce’s women’s lightweight (145 pounds) champion, earned $25,000, which included a $5,000 win bonus.
The event, which drew 13,976 spectators and a $735,710 gate at the HP Pavilion, marked the first time a women’s bout headlined a major event in the U.S.
Newly minted light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi wasn’t as prosperous in his U.S. debut. The 24-year-old Armenian made an uncustomary $2,000 in his swift first-round victory over Renato "Babalu" Sobral, according to the CSAC figures. Sobral earned $75,000 for the loss.

50/50: Renato Tavares’ answer
ATT Vero Beach teacher shows escape from controversial guard
The subject of a special report in GRACIEMAG 150, the 50/50 guard is beginning to be unraveled by Jiu-Jitsu’s elite. Keeping close watch of the controversy, Renato Tavares, the teacher at American Top Team Vero Beach, wasted no time and sent in a message to the GRACIEMAG.com newsroom.
“I made a video of the 50/50 position. I can’t miss the chance to show it first. The idea behind the position is to get out of knot it’s become, to get out of what appears to be stalling. Everyone’s talking about it, but nobody has shown the solution. I made my DCD with 14 moves n top and bottom three weeks ago, and three weeks from now it will be on the market,” Renato announces.
Unaware the black belt already had a solution to the enigma, Fabio Gurgel and the gang from Alliance also prepared an antidote and showed it to GRACIEMAG.com. The result will be published over the weekend.

Ultimate Fight Challenge and Mixed Martial Arts could come to Abu Dhabi in the near future.
Abu Dhabi: Ultimate Fight Challenge (UFC) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fans in the region will be in for a knockout when the series makes its debut in the near future, after UFC President Dana White expressed his interest in hosting an international event in the UAE capital.
White visited Abu Dhabi "on business" but flew back to Philadelphia in the United States for UFC 101, which starts on Saturday.
Any form of blood sport is a major draw and with White suggesting Abu Dhabi as a step in the right direction for the pay-per-view TV-hit worldwide, there is little doubt UFC organisers are eyeing the UAE capital with some seriousness.
Using the networking tool Twitter to connect with UFC's global audience, White said: "[I've] just landed in Philly [Philadelphia]. Abu Dhabi is amazing, if we do a fight there make plans to go. You have to see it!"
UFC combines mixed martial arts, boxing, wrestling and many other forms of contact sports, and is often referred to as "street-fighting". Once regarded as "human cock-fighting" by US Senator and one-time presidential candidate John McCain, the violence involved in the sport is immense.
However, the blood spilled on UFC mats hasn't gone to waste, with the series leapfrogging most other pay-per-view events, including boxing and ice-hockey.
Organisers and promoters have cleaned up the act since the sport was introduced a little over 10 years ago, but it still coughs up a bloody sight.
Under White's leadership, the sport is rebuilding its reputation and fights are now timed and classified into weight classes. Numerous rules to protect fighters have also been incorporated. The UFC notes on its website that no fighter has ever been seriously injured at an event.
