A wrestler among JJ fighters
It's already lunch time in Rio de Janeiro, and Jiu-Jitsu training at the headquarters of the BTT, in Lagoa, should have been over a while ago. GRACIEMAG.com, though, arrived right on time: team instructor Antoine Jaoude, wrestling medalist at the 2003 Pan-Ams and IFL fighter, is teaching the last few takedowns to a few fighters on the team, and, as he exits the mat, he agrees the next challenge without hesitation: to interview a group of blue belts on exchange in Brazil. “Wouldn’t it be best if I took a bath first?” asked Antoine.
The question makes sense, they aren’t your every day tourists. They are the personal security detail for Sheikh Mohamad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, military officers who’ve taken several training courses around the world, all so as to better protect the supreme chief of the UAE army and crown prince of Abu Dhabi. Kron Gracie is one of those fighters who was born with everyone around him expecting a brilliant future of him. Bearing the enormous responsibility of being son of Rickson Gracie, the brown belt, of just 19 years of age, moves steadily forward in his long and gradual journey to the top.
The 2008 Pan-American was one more successful step in his career as a fighter, as the prodigy submitted his opponent in every single fight he participated in, snatching up the top medals at weight and absolute. Kron's next stop is this year's World Championship, in California, at the beginning of June.
For the biggest competition of all, the young man will still be sporting his old brown belt, and despite his results and the current pushing for his promotion, he is more motivated than ever to take on yet another challenge.

Mario 'The Zen Machine' Sperry is considered to be one of the greatest Brazilian fighters of all time. An accomplished master of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, he first broke on the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu scene back in the early eighties. He dominated every belt division as he rose through the ranks to Black Belt. A prodigy of the legendary Carlson Gracie, Mario was handed his Black Belt at the 1995 World Championships of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu where he entered and won the heavyweight Black Belt division defeating many of the sports greatest legends. Copying a Tiger Woods story, Mario won again in 1996, 1997, 1998 becoming one of the most successful fighters in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu history to date. In late 1998, Mario Sperry became the first fighter in history to make a Gracie submit in a mach when he defeated legendary World Champion, Royler Gracie in Brazil. He is also well known for becoming the first World Submission Grappling Champion (Abu Dhabi), a title he held for three consecutive years. As a Vale-Tudo fighter and coach, Mario Sperry's accomplishments are known around the globe.

This is a friendly reminder that registration is now open for the First American Cup Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Tournament. This exciting tournament will be held at Los Gatos High School, 20 High School Court, Los Gatos, CA 95030 located just minutes from the San Jose Airport!
On Saturday May 17, 2008 the first day of the tournament, is exclusively for kids aged 4-15 regardless of belt color. The cost for kids early registration prior to Thursday May 8th is $45.00 USD. From May 9 - 11, 2008, registration increases to $60.00 USD.
On Sunday May 18, 2008, the second day of the tournament, will be for competitors in the Juvenile, Adults, Masters and Seniors categories. The cost of early registration for Juveniles through Masters prior to Thursday May 8th is $65.00 USD. From May 9 - 11, 2008, registration increases to $80.00 USD.

2008 Pan Final Day Quick Results - 3 Names to remember Andre Galvao,
Kron Gracie and Luka Dias
The final day of the 2008 Pan was the coronation for 3 names: Andre Galvao, Kron Gracie and Luka Dias. Galvao won the Black Belt weight and Absolute, defeating Tarsys Humphries with an injury withdrawl and submitting Roberto Tozi in the Absolute finals with a choke. Kron took the weight and Absolute (yesterday) Brown Belt being the name of the tournament on that Belt division, Kron won all his 10 matches (weight and Absolute) by submission continuing a string that is above 40 and starting to worry father Rickson: "He is starting to catch up to me now!" Evergreen Luka Dias won both her weight and the adult ladies Absolute in perhaps the match of the finals against current World Champion Michelle Nicollini. Luka and Michelle tradede sweeps with Mchelle scoring a guard pass to reach teh final score of 8 x 7 for Luka. The 45 year old proved to everyone that age is just a number!
Other notables had Rubens "Cobrinha" winning over Bruno Frazatto, Celsinho Vinicius defeating Lucas Lepri in another great match. Fabio Gurgel took the weight and Absolute in his age group.
