Four champions earn purple belt after World Pro in Abu Dhabi: locals Yahya Mansoor, Faisel and Tarek Al Kitbi and Guam's Jonathan Tuck.

Kutbi, Calazans shine in World Pro Jiu-Jitsu Cup
UAE'S Faisal Al Kutbi won the Open Heavy weight championship while Brazilian Claudio Calazans emerged the absolute champion in the second World Processional Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2010 which concluded at the Abu Dhabi Tennis Complex in Zayed Sports City on Saturday night.

Earlier in the evening, Kutbi won the under-93 category and another prominent UAE fighter Yahya Mansoor (under 98 kgs), and Tarek Al Kutbi (under 63 kgs) added one medal each to raise their tally to four gold medals,

The event was held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Sheikh Mohamed attended the evening the finals of the competition which kick started on Thursday. Also present were Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

Organised by the UAE Wrestling, Judo and Jiu-Jitu Federation (UAEWJJ) it has attracted around 350 competitors from 38 countries of the world, including 66 from the UAE.

Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sheikh Zayed Bin Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Al Khalid Al Nahyan and UAEWJJ president Mohammed Bin Thaloub distributed the prizes.
Claudio Calazans who emerged the absolute champion walked away with a cheque of $20,000.

Guam's Jonathan Tuck won the Open Lightweight championship after beating UAE' Mohamemd Nasser to second place. "It was my third appearance in Abu Dhabi and I am delighted to win the title as the competition drew some of the best fighters of the world. In my first appearance in Abu Dhabi I won the Super Cup competition in 2008 and I finished third in the inaugural World Pro Jiu-Jitsu Cup," he said.

For the first time two ladies divisions were featured including an under-63 division and an over-63 division.
In the female over-63 category, Brazilians Gabriellel Garcia, Luzias Fernandes took the first and second place respectably. Whereas in the under-63 kgs Brazilian Luanna Alzuguri and Beatriz Mesquita took the first and second place from American Hillary Williams and Brazilian Juliana Nogueira.

Claudio Calasans is the great name of World Pro of Abu Dhabi this year. Overcoming the favorite Braulio Estima in the finals of the weight and absolute, Calasans brings home a belt and 28 thousand dollars. Within these categories, his teammates Rafael Mendes and Gilbert Durinho also shone. In other weights, Alexandre Ceconi, Ricardo Demente, Luanna Alzuguir and Gabrielle Garcia earned the titles.

Until he got to the finale, Bráulio Estima, what “the guy” in the competition, submitting his first two opponents, including an arm lock in Guto Campos and a 10x2 score against Alexandre Ceconi. His opponent Gabriel Vella has beaten Ricardo Demente and Guilherme Mendes. On the other side, there was Cláudio Calasans, who submitted his opponents and would face Alexandre de Souza, who had submitted his first opponent and then eliminated André Galvão on the vantages. There was so much emotion that it rained in Abu Dhabi, a real rare thing.

Cláudio Calasans had surprised Bráulio Estima on the category’s finale and assured US$8 thousand on his bank account, but he wanted more. On the absolute finale, who would give US$20 thousand and the belt for the champion, the Atos athlete turned out a winner, one more time, as he got advantages over Bráulio to win the title.

Mohammed Bin Zayed, Hazza' attends concluding ceremony of Jiu Jitsu Cup
H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces and H.H Hazza'a Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council attended the closing ceremony of the Abu Dhabi Pro Jiu Jitsu World Cup at the Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.

The championship is organized by the UAE Wrestling, Judo '&' Jiu Jitsu Federation.

Also present at the ceremony were Staff Brigadier Pilot Sheikh Ahmad Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Critical National Infrastructure Authority (CNIA), Mohammed Bin Thaloub, president of UAE Wrestling, Judo '&' Jiu Jitsu Federation and Mohammed Al-Mahmoud, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
More than 300 martial arts experts from 38 countries have descended on the capital to challenge for a share of the US$150,000 (Dh550,900) prize pool and two world titles at the championship.
The Brazilian team won the title of the championship while the UAE team won the second place.
