Mohammad attends final of jiu-jitsu championship
Abu Dhabi: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, attended here on Saturday evening the final of the first World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. The tournament kicked off on Friday at the International Lawn Tennis Complex of the Zayed Sports City.
His sudden arrival at the event encouraged the UAE fighters and motivated Yahya Mansour and Faisal Kitbi to snatch gold in their various divisions.
According to the overall results, the Brazilian team emerged champions with 20 medals, including nine gold.
The UAE team was second with 18 medals, including five gold, while the United States placed third with six medals, including one gold. The final day of the two-day championship attracted a large crowd, including a number of top UAE officials.
Shaikh Zayed Bin Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Shaikh Zayed Bin Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan were also present for the thrilling final.
In a statement, the chairman of the organising committee and board chairman of the Armed Forces Officers Club, Lieutenant General Mohammad Hilal Al Ka'abi, praised the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince for his unstinting support for the championship.
He said Shaikh Mohammad's support was the secret behind the great success of the event.
He also lauded the UAE Wrestling, Judo and Jiu-Jitsu Association for its efforts.
Two hundred and twenty two contestants from 32 countries, including 45 from the UAE, competed in the two-day event.
