All set for Jiu-Jitsu event

AS many 90 competitors including 45 Emiratis have confirmed their participation in the first Emirates Cup Jiu-Jitsu competition to be held at the UAE Wrestling and Judo Federation arena in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

The one day event is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Zayed Bin Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The competitions will held in seven weight categories including under-65, under-73, undner-81, under-89, under -97, over-97 and an open category.

Event manger Carlos Santos said no cash awards have been earmarked as prizes but the top three finishers will be given medals.

"Jiu-Jitsu fighters from Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan have already arrived and we are looking forward to an interesting event Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu event is gaining momentum here and plans are ahead to make the Emirates Cup an annual event," said the former world champion.

"Armed Forces Officers Club is the main sponsor and we are thankful to them for their continued support," said Carlos.

He also expressed his gratitude to Major General Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Deputy Chief of Staff and chairman of Afoc for his support. Friday's action begins at 2 pm with the prize distribution ceremony later in the evening.
