Alexandre Souza defeates Big Mac in absolute final
Souza wins absolute title by advantage after 2 - 2 score
By defeating Luis “Big Mac” Teodoro in the final of the absolute black belt division by 1 advantage point after a score of 2 to 2, Alexandre Souza, black belt from Gracie Floripa, was made the big name of the 2008 European Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which took place in the Casal Vistoso Sports Complex, in Lisbon, Portugal.
Before triumphing in the most prestigious category of the competition, Alexandre had already conquered the title among medium heavyweight athletes.
In the featherweight division, Reinaldo Ribeiro (Brasa) submitted Anderson Silva (Alliance) in under a minute with a foot lock.
Among middleweights, Alexandre Souza (Gracie Floripa) ended up champion by W.O., as the other finalist Ricardo Oliveira (NCT Swiss), with an arm injury, was unable to carry on in the dispute.
With the occurrence, Alexandre benefits for being better rested in his absolute final match against Luis Felipe “Big Mac” Teodoro.
Big Mac, on his part, is bringing it all on, though. The Godoi JJ black belt took the gold of the super super-heavyweight category by overcoming Marcio Corleta by 4 to 2.
Among the roosterweights, Wekcilley Lima (Swiss Morges Team) submitted Pablo Teixeira (Brazilian Fight) by choke and went to the top of the podium.
Another Brazilian battle took place among super featherweights. Felipe Costa (Brasa) defeated Bernardo Pitel (Nova Uniao) by advantages and took first place.
In the lightweight category there was no final. Michel Maia and Eduardo Pessoa, the former from Sul JJ and latter from Nova Uniao, opted to “shut out” the weight group alleging to train together all the time. With the decision, the gold went to Maia, who had his arm raised by the referee.
One of the standouts of the competition, Alan do Nascimento (Brasa) confirmed his good phase by defeating Otavio Souza (Gracie Barra) in the middleweight final. To reach the decision, Alan went past Victor Estima (Gracie Barra) by 2 to 0 in the fight that was considered the best of the event.
In the heavyweight final, Valdir Araujo de Lima Jr. (Osvaldo Alves) defeated Renato Tavares de Moraes (Frontline) by 4 to 0. Closing out the weight disputes and before the absolute, Marcel Fortuna (Gracie Floripa) overcame Hakim Gouram (BJJ Belgium) by 7 to 0 and took the gold among super heavyweights.
