A prodigy of the legendary Carlson Gracie, Mario was handed his Black Belt at the 1995 World Championships of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu where he entered and won the heavyweight Black Belt division defeating many of the sports greatest legends. Copying a Tiger Woods story, Mario won again in 1996, 1997, 1998 becoming one of the most successful fighters in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu history to date. In late 1998, Mario Sperry became the first fighter in history to make a Gracie submit in a mach when he defeated legendary World Champion, Royler Gracie in Brazil. He is also well known for becoming the first World Submission Grappling Champion (Abu Dhabi), a title he held for three consecutive years. As a Vale-Tudo fighter and coach, Mario Sperry's accomplishments are known around the globe.
