Rocky 6’? Stallone signs on for another round
New film will feature a retired Balboa coming out of retirement

Eye of the tiger, baby: Sly, playing Rocky, plays off boxer Tommy Gunn (played by Tommy Morrison) as they work on a scene from "Rocky V" in 1990. Did the blows go to Stallone's head?

LOS ANGELES - Sylvester Stallone is signing on to reprise his role as boxer Rocky Balboa in the sixth installment of the long-running film series, which he wrote and will direct.

The film, titled “Rocky Balboa,” will be co-produced and co-financed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Columbia Pictures and Revolution Studios and will be distributed by Columbia Pictures.

Stallone has been trying to make a sixth movie for years and has been reworking a script. The latest version, which sources said is similar to the tone and grit of the first two movies, persuaded the studios to negotiate a deal.

“In many ways, the screenplay really took me back to the original ‘Rocky,”’ Revolution Studios founder Joe Roth said in a statement. “As a past champion, Rocky Balboa is once again a regular guy who has to find himself and deal with real life. This film brings Rocky’s story full circle.”

In the new installment, Rocky, lonely and retired in Philadelphia, comes out of retirement, intending to fight a few low-profile local fights. He’s approached to fight a match with reigning heavyweight champ Mason “The Line” Dixon, and soon his comeback ignites a media firestorm.

“’Rocky Balboa’ is about everybody who feels they want to participate in the race of life, rather than be a bystander,” Stallone said in a statement. “You’re never too old to climb a mountain, if that’s your desire.”

Shooting is scheduled to begin in December in Los Angeles and Philadelphia.

Stallone received Academy Award nominations for starring in and writing “Rocky,” and the 1976 MGM film won an Oscar for best picture, best director (John G. Avildsen) and best editing (Richard Halsey, Scott Conrad). The movie grossed $117.3 million at the domestic boxoffice, making Stallone a film star and creating one of cinema’s most famous characters.

It also launched one of the most successful film series of all time. 1979’s “Rocky II” grossed $85 million, and 1982’s “Rocky III,” which featured Mr. T, grossed $120.2 million. “Rocky IV,” with Dolph Lundgren, made $125.4 million after its 1985 release. By the decade’s close, however, audiences seemed to have tired of the character. “Rocky V,” released in 1990, made only $40 million.

“Rocky Balboa” is the first film to be green-lit by MGM since it was acquired by Sony Corp.

TAP OUT MAGAZINE:

KID NEWS :

Kid Peligro Jiu-Jitsu News . . . Saulo moving to Ca - European BJJ Tourney - Chad Beatty goes off - Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Emirates Magazine
Submitted by: Kid Peligro

Rumors of Saulo and Xande Ribeiro's relocation to California, more specifically San Diego, have been floating around for months. For the longest time, they remained nothing but that . . . rumors. Things however appear to be changing, recently Xande Ribeiro spent a few days in San Diego scoping out locations before going to the North Shore to train at the Boar's Nest and now, Graciemag.com reports that Saulo announced the impending opening of what he calls: University of Brazilian Ju-Jitsu in that city!

What that means is that a city with an already strong contingent of BJJ instructors and schools will get that much stronger, with the presence of the current World Absolute Champion and his brother multiple times World BJJ and ADCC Champion.

Rumors of a huge influx of BJJ practitioners to San Diego may have already affected rent levels in that City : )

Speaking of Saulo - He has a new Black Belt

A few nights ago, Saulo gave his last seminar in Michigan at Focus Jiu Jitsu Academy in Ann Arbor (www.focusjj.tv) before he moves to San Diego,CA. Saulo's brown belt Sean Bansfield runs this Saulo affiliated school.

Saulo gave the participants the same mount lesson that Rickson gave him. GEneral coments were that you could spend a lifetime drilling those techniques and still not have them mastered.

Anyway, after the seminar, Saulo promoted Sean to Black Belt. Saulo took off his signature embroidered black belt and tied it around Sean's waist. Obviously, Sean was very pleased to have completed the long journey to black belt.

Sean started training in 1999. He got his blue belt from Ricardo De La Riva. He got all his other belts (purple, brown and black) from Saulo. Saulo has only promoted two American black belts, Chris Blanke and now Sean Bansfield.

Congratulations to Sean for his promotion to Black Belt by one of the best BJJ black belts in the world.

Yet another Brazilian Black Belt in Oahu?!?!?

Check the news from Brazilian Black Belt web site:

Now go train Jiu-Jitsu,
