Stage all set for Emirates Cup Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu C'ship

AS many as 150 competitors from 25 countries will vie for honours during this weekend's third Emirates Cup Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship to be held at the UAE Judo and Wrestling Federation arena in Abu Dhabi. The two-day event is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Zayed Bin Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the total prize money on offer is Dhs 55,000.

The competition will be held in eight different weight categories including under-64, under-71, under-78, under-85, under-92, under-99 over-99, and an open weight (absolute) event.

To announce the details of the championship a press conference was held at the AFOC on Tuesday attended by chairman of the competition Major General Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Deputy Chief-of-Staff and chairman of Armed Forces Offices Club (AFOC).

"In total 150 competitors of 25 nationalities will be represented in the event with participants from the Middle East, Europe and both, North and South America making it a truly international competition ," said Major General Kaabi, who also the president of the UAE Athletic Federation.

The championship is scheduled for 2 pm starts on both Friday and Saturday with the preliminaries on the opening day and the knockout phase in the following day.

The press briefing was attended by Brazilian Carlos Santos, the event manager and the head coach of the Emirates team
