SOUTH AMERICA BJJ :

Nova Geração shines in 1st South American JJ tourney
Cyborg wins weight div and closes absolute in Florianopolis
In a beautiful event that proved that Brazil's superiority over Argentina will last a few years yet, at least in Jiu-jitsu, team Nova Geração stood out and dictated the pace for their Mercosul-trading-block "hermanos".

To win the South American Jiu-Jitsu championship, carried out on the 2nd and 3rd days of December, in downtown Florianopolis, the seal of Instructor Francisco Toco relied on the solid game of Roberto de Abreu "Cyborg", who in July won the bronze in the openweight division at the world championship. Aside from winning the super-heavyweight, the black belt closed off the open weight category alongside his colleague Alexandre "Pulga" Pimentel, celebrating with their team.

But the Sports Complex of the State Institute for Education did not applaud only them. Between the nearly 400 athletes participating (beyond the many Argentinians, Americans and Polish who also wore the gi and competed), the tough Michel Maia (Pitbull) was the big name at lightweight, after beating "Pulga" and overcoming Ocimar Costa (Chute Boxe) in the final.

The southerner Fernando Paradeda (Sul JJ) also partied, after winning the regional battle with Hugo Carione (Gracie Florianopolis), in a fight that shook the tournament. Bernardo Pitel assumed the throne at featherweight after beating Gustavo Falciroli (Godoi). Carlos Gracie Jr, satisfied with the structure and the performance of the athletes, announced in a speech that CBJJ would carry out a South American tournament annually in the capitol of Santa Catarina.
