Mohammed receives UAE winners of World Championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

WAM Abu Dhabi, 4th May 2009 (WAM) -- General HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received today UAE winners of second silver rank and first at Arab level of the first World Championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for professionals. The UAE fighters snatched 18 medals of which five were gold.

Over 222 athletes from 32 countries participated in the championship organised by Armed Forces Officer's Club and Abu Dhabi Sports Council in association with UAE Wrestling and Judo Federation at the International Lawn Tennis Complex of the Zayed Sports City.

''This achievement is a true embodiment of the great care and support President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, are lending to sports and young sportsmen,''Sheikh Mohammed said.

''The achievement you have made marks the start of a sport history for the UAE in the 1st World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship.

It's a great honour and a source of proud for all UAE people,''Sheikh Mohammed told the UAE champions.
''It's a good departure for winning more honours in the international individual Olympic games,''he added.

''Every cup won by UAE sportsmen contributes to raise the UAE flag a loft at regional and international forums, he said, urging the sportsmen to double their efforts to win more cups in future.
