INSIDE UAE:

Al Wasl win President's Cup in grand style

Abu Dhabi, Apr. 3, 2007 (WAM) -- Al Wasl club this evening spanked Al Ain 4:1 to win the 2006/2007 President's Cup championship in a grand style.

In a well-attended match which saw the stadium of the Sheikh Zayed Sports City filled to near capacity, Al Wasl opened up score through their enterprising Brazilian import, Oliveira, but Frank Olivier leveled the score line for Al Ain in the 26th minute of the first half. Al Wasl's second Brazilian import put them in the lead again with a spectacular goal just before the break, before Tariq Hassan and Oliveira struck in the second half to give Al Wasl a comfortable lead until the final whistle.

The new champions were crowned by H.H. sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, who presented the coveted cup to the champions.
