Abu Dhabi: The UAE emerged as the overall champions of the Dh100,000 Emirates Asian Super Cup Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championship which concluded at the UAE Wrestling and Judo Federation hall in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
The UAE finished on top in the competition, which drew 145 competitors from 20 countries, with a total of four gold, three silver and seven bronze medals.

Jordan, with three gold, four silver and seven bronze medals finished second and Brazil with three gold, two silver and four bronze medals followed in third place.

The two-day event, organised by the Armed Forces Officers Club and Abu Dhabi Combat Club, held under the patronage of Shaikh Zayed Bin Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was sponsored by Abu Haleeqa and Caracal.

The UAE's bullion bag was boosted by Bader Al Sanani, who won two golds, one in the under-98 category and the other in the open category.

" It feels great to win two events. The competition was really tough and there were some top fighters in the fray," said the double winner. The Open category final was an all-family affair, with Brazil's Tigao Pereira scoring over his brother Diego.

Realising a dream

"It was my dream to visit Abu Dhabi for a competition and now I am satisfied as I was able to win two gold medals here," said Tiago, who earlier in the evening won the under-90 title.

"I am impressed with this event and this will help in my preparation for the European Jiu Jitsu championship, to be held in Portugal in January," said the 28-year-old Brazilian who is also the reigning under-90 Brazilian champion.
