Abu Dhabi: The UAE's Eid Rehan scored a double in the two-day Asian Jiu Jitsu Championship which was held over the weekend here in the capital.

Rehan, one of the UAE's top exponents of Brazilian jiu jitsu, did the country proud by winning the Absolute Class in the Open category against his Jordanian opponent.

Rehan displayed excellent skills as he forced Zayed Nayef into submission to win the feature event in the two-day championship that saw over 150 competitors from 30 countries taking part.
Rehan had earlier won the above-99kg category title with a win over another UAE fighter, Talal Awad.

Apart from Rehan the other UAE competitors who tasted success were Saif Al Nuaimi, Khalifa Al Qubaisi, Mohammad Al Menhali and Abdullah Al Ketbi.
The two-day event was held under the patronage of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Jordan's Sa'ad Alananza and Luiz Fernando, Bahrain's Mohammad Mirza and Tunisian Hassan Mousa along with Jaro Fedorisin from Slovakia also won titles in their respective categories to carry home a slice of the total prize money of $33,000 (Dh121,374) that was on offer.

The UAE emerged the overall winners with Jordan and Bahrain following them in the top three positions. Commenting on the UAE's fine display, former three-time world champion Carlos Santos said it was expected.

"We have a strong group of UAE nationals who have been training very hard. Some of them have been winners in previous events while most others have been improving all the time," said Santos, who is the coach of the UAE team.
