Tunisian Moosa keeps his Jiu-Jitsu crown

Abu Dhabi: Hassan Moosa won the Open category to retain his title in the Abu Dhabi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu title on Saturday at the Armed Forces Officers Club (AFOC) here.

The Tunisian champion battled it out with Abdulsalam Arous for the entire five-minute period without a decisive result and later Hassan was adjudged winner for being the more aggressive.

Hassan, a former African champion and currently coach of the UAE national team, said this year the competition was of a much higher level.

"Compared to last year, there were better fighters in the competition and this event is getting better," said Hassan, a 34-year-old professional. Bahrain's Daniel Stewart and the UAE's Eid Rehan shared the third place.

Shaikh Zayed Bin Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Shaikh Zayed Bin Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with Major General Mohammad Hilal Al Ka'abi, Chief of Staff and President of the UAE Athletics Federation and Mohammad Bin Thaloob, president of the UAE Wrestling and Judo Federation, attended Saturday's proceedings. Competitions were held in 10 other categories with a total of 140 fighters competing for the total prize money of Dh200,000.
