XANDE RIBEIRO NUMBER 1 :

Xande Ribeiro wins the open class
Xande Ribeiro is the man. By one advantage the Gracie Humaita black-belt defeated Roger Gracie and conquered the title of the open class of the XI BJJ World Championship held yesterday at Tijuca Tenis Clube, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The open-class final began with Xande and Roger performing a standup battle. Xande got an advantage after he tried to take Roger down, but Gracie was the first one to score by taking his opponent down. With Roger on top of him, Xande resisted a guillotine choke attack and managed to sweep Roger, tying the dispute. Working from the top, Xande obtained another advantage but wasn’t able to avoid a sweep by the opponent, who scored his four points this far. Dominating the action, Roger earned one advantage but let Xande get up and take him down, tying the score again (4-4) with few seconds remaining on the clock. With two advantages and Roger with only one, Xande Ribeiro celebrated his first open-class title, whereas Roger Gracie is the category’s vice-champion for the fourth consecutive year.
